What Is Zapier?
Zapier is task automation software that allows you to easily connect independent applications without needing to build custom software.
The entirety of a task in Zapier (e.g. recording a payment using PayPal and having the payment automatically created in your Teachworks account) is called a Zap. A Zap contains at least one Trigger and one Action, but you can also easily create Zaps that have more than one Action.
An example of a Zap that has more than one action would be:
- Receive an email in Gmail that contains an attachment (Trigger)
- Automatically copy the attachment from Gmail to Dropbox (Action)
- Receive an alert in Slack that a file has been added to Dropbox (Action).
A Trigger initiates the rest of your Zap. Examples of triggers are a new customer being added to Teachworks or a payment being recorded in PayPal.
Actions are what occur in response to the trigger. Examples of actions are adding the new customer to CRM software like SalesForce or Zoho when a new customer is added to Teachworks, or automatically recording a PayPal payment in Teachworks after processing it in PayPal.
